A Crystal Start to Summer

A Crystal Start to Summer

Well, this is how I’m spending my summer:

Being Auntie Crys

My sis, Cheryl (4 years older than me), had a baby almost three weeks ago, on June 17th! This is the first baby in our immediate family, and sure enough, I was there since we admitted my sis to the hospital for labor and delivery. We prepared ourselves with the baby-to-go bag and I brought myself an extra pair of clothes, juuuussstttt in case. I had no idea how long these things took!

oh hey contractions.

Well, after 13 hours of being in the labor and delivery room, from 7pm-approx 8:13am, baby Isla Catherine Haley was born!

Thanks to technology, my mom recorded the entire delivery on her iPad. YUP! That was probably a good thing because 1) it distracted her from getting tooooooo involved (she’s a nurse) and prevented her from passing out 2) that’s a file that will stay with our family forever. haha 3) i’m sure Isla will want to see that someday (maybe)!

Had no idea I would help my sister with counting while she pushed, and that I would help hold her legs in place while baby started to coming out. What in the world? Such an experience!

Here she is…Baby Isla Catherine Haley!

Getting My Wings

I’ve been driving since I was 16, and drove through my two years after graduating when I lived in LA. When I was in NYC, I relied on the subways, taxis, and buses. When I was in the Philippines, I relied on jeepneys and taxis (learning to always check the backseat of the taxi to make sure no one is about to kidnap me, especially when it’s dark…and always calling a friend so the taxi driver knew i was in communication with someone else in terms of my whereabouts). When I was in Pennsylvania, the sisters let me borrow one of their cars so I could commute back and forth to the college and for my errands! Well, now that I’m back in California, about to commute to norCal, it became inevitable that I will need a car…and so, here it is!!

yay – here we go!!

After dealing with a number of nice car salesmen, then ridiculously rude and obnoxious car salesmen, I was finally happy to get an awesome deal through a great car dealership. Gotta love Toyota of Orange! My car salesman tried to butter me up, do all that sales talky stuff, and I told him I worked in sales and I don’t love the BS…I told him I’d rather just talk numbers and tell me details on the car. Oops – too much? My patience was definitely runnin’ low at that point. But it all paid off!

And now, I gotta work on paying off this car! #adultproblems

Her name is Wings. YAY!

Preparing For My Move

Perhaps not much to say about this part yet…except for the fact that I’m moving up to norCal to work at a high school – coordinating their immersion trips and community involvement program. So excited and looking forward to it! Within a month of moving to the west coast, I was able to find a job – one that was exactly in line with what I was looking for. I’m beyond grateful. Talk about God providing…really awesome!

Since graduating from college, I haven’t lived anywhere for longer than two years (currently, my time in the Philippines holds that record). We’ll see if norCal will nurture my soul for a while. Who knows?

My life packed in two suitcases continues…but now, I’ll have more space in a car since I won’t be traveling via plane. My clothes from Pennsylvania are still neatly (kinda) folded in their suitcases, and my boxes of books and binders are packed right next to them. Some things just gotta travel with me always across the miles.

two suitcase life.
two suitcase life. and carry-on!

Thanks for coming along!

SideNote

July 2013 is the first month I have not been on a plane in the past 11 months!! No Board meetings, no conferences, no weekend vacation, no workshops to attend… I suppose now that I have Wings, that will make up for this month. This better not be a habit!
